Pundit praises Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliott.
Football pundit Jamie Redknapp has praised goalkeeper Rob Elliott after his latest display against West Ham.
Newcastle won the game 2-1, ensuring they remain out of the relegation zone in 17th position.
Elliott has adeptly stood in for injured Dutchman Tim Krul, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Redknapp told The Mail: "McClaren said losing Tim Krul to injury could cost his side 20 points.
"The way Rob Elliot is playing right now, Krul will do well to get back in the team."
Newcastle did suffer when they had to play Karl Darlow in goal when Elliott was ill, but Elliott is proving his worth.
The 29-year-old signed for the club in 2011 from Charlton Athletic but did not make his Premier League debut for the club until two years later.
Only now he is getting a real run in the side, and appears determined to make the most of the chance he has now been given.
Next season he will have a real chance of being first choice, and allow Newcastle to take their time with Krul's rehab, or even convince them to try to cash in on the goalkeeper.
