The Tottenham Hotspur winger scored for the under-21s this week.
Young Tottenham Hotspur winger Emmanuel Sonupe returned to the starting line-up for the under-21 clash with Manchester City on Monday and he swiftly repaid his coaches’ faith by scoring in a 2-2 draw.
The 19-year-old is predominantly a right winger although he can operate on the opposite flank if required and he spoke of his satisfaction after the match in an interview broadcast on Spurs TV.
“Personally I’m very happy because obviously I’ve been trying to get into the team to start and I finally started and scored, so it’s good for me on a personal level,” Sonupe said.
“That’s what will get you noticed. At the end of the day they will look at the score-sheet. It’s very important.”
Tottenham have a number of impressive young players coming through the ranks right now, and with Harry Winks and Josh Onomah recently making the step up the likes of Sonupe will be hoping to follow in their footsteps.
Scoring and setting up goals is certainly the best way for a winger to get noticed and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to receive a positive report after the teenager’s latest outing.
However, Sonupe is going to have to do the same again on many more occasions before he can knock on his manager’s door with any real confidence.
