Does Emmanuel Adebayor have an extra incentive to seal a Crystal Palace deal by Friday.

The Mail report Crystal Palace are continuing to negotiate with Emmanuel Adebayor about signing him, with the striker remaining a free agent.

Adebayor wants an 18 month deal, which Palace are yet to offer, but at present they look like his most likely option for a return to play in the Premier League.

Intriguingly, Palace play his former side Tottenham Hotspur this weekend at Selhurst Park, which could give the Togo international extra incentive to sign in time for the fixture.

He would have to sign in order to be registered with the Premier League by Friday lunchtime, if he is to be eligible to feature at the weekend.

There remains a question mark over his fitness, with the striker not playing a game since February, instead having to work with a personal trainer to remain up to speed, but it is unclear if he could go straight into a Premier League game, although Palace's very limited striker options could necessitate it.

Playing against his former club Tottenham could raise his motivation to perform, and at least figure on the bench - if he is permitted.

Tottenham released him from their books in September, but remain lumbered with paying his wages until June until his deal with them runs out.

It is unclear if there are any contractual reasons in place which would prevent him playing against them, even though he is free to sign with another club with a free agent. The Mail's report states that only if a club were to be prepared to match the £100,000 per week wages he was on at Tottenham, would Spurs stop paying him, and from Palace's perspective there is no need to do so.

All these issues will become clearer over the week ahead, but from a footballing point of view it would be fascinating to see Adebayor leading the line against Spurs at the weekend, if possible, and potentially denting their prospects of a title challenge or top four finish this season.
