Dietmar Hamann and ex-teammate react on Twitter to Shane Long to Liverpool speculation

Shane Long

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Shane Long from Southampton in the January transfer window.

Dietmar Hamann has stated on social networking site Twitter that Shane Long would be a good signing for Liverpool.

According to a recent report in The Mirror, Liverpool made an approach for the striker, but it was rebuffed by Southampton.

The Saints are reportedly determined to retain the services of the 28-year-old despite recently signing Charlie Austin from Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Former Liverpool midfielder Hamann believes that the Republic of Ireland international would be a good signing for the Reds in the January transfer window.

Coventry City winger Stephen Hunt, who played with Long at Reading from 2005 to 2009, believes that one cannot claim that his Irish compatriot is not good enough for Liverpool until he plays for them.

Long, who has been on the books of Southampton since 2014, has not been in great form this season.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Hull City striker has scored five goals and created 15 chances in 14 Premier League appearances this campaign.
