David Gold names Diafra Sakho when told by a West Ham fan to sign a striker with pace

West Ham United seem to be ready to wait for the return of Diafra Sakho rather than dip back into the transfer market this month.

West Ham United joint chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to reply to a fan asking for more pace up front.

The Hammers are currently sixth in the Premier League table following their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday, and while that will be disappointing for manager Slaven Bilic his side are still flying high and have much to be proud of.

They have coped relatively well with an injury crisis that has robbed them of the likes of Dimitri Payet, Manuel Lanzini, Enner Valencia, Any Carroll and Diafra Sakho for various parts of the campaign to date. But it does not seem that Gold has any intention of bringing in another new attacker this month.

On Sunday a fan pleaded with the club to look at strikers with pace and Gold swiftly replied, “We’re looking at Diafra Sakho!”

The 26-year-old has scored 17 goals in 40 matches for the Hammers to date but he has been side-lined since early December with a hamstring injury.

With Sakho expected to be out for another six or seven weeks there is no quick fix. However, following his latest comments Gold is clearly putting his faith in the player to come back firing.
