Report: Watford to rival West Brom and Bournemouth for QPR ace Matt Phillips

Watford, West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth are all keen on Queens Park Rangers star Matt Phillips, reports say.

According to the Mirror, Watford have joined West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth in the race to sign Queens Park Rangers winger Matt Phillips.

The newspaper claims that Watford boss Quique Flores Sanchez has sent scouts to watch the winger in action and is weighing up making a move for the £8million-rated star.

“Watford have joined the £8million Premier League scramble to sign QPR winger Matt Phillips. The Hornets want to sign two widemen, with Malaga’s £6.5m-rated flier Nordin Amrabat another target,” the Mirror reports.

Watford have begun life as a Premier League side exceedingly well, steering well clear of the relegation zone and picking up a number of victories to leave them comfortably in mid-table.

The club’s success is largely owed to their fantastic scouting network, with the owners having key connections in Italy and Spain allowing them to bring in talent such as Odion Ighalo.

However, recent league results have not been great and the club are keen to strengthen their squad this month with players both from abroad and from within England.

Nordin Amrabat appears set to join from Malaga, and fresh reports cite QPR ace Phillips as another target.

The 24-year-old winger impressed last season in the Premier League and thus far he has five goals and three assists in 27 Championship appearances.

Bournemouth and West Brom have also been accredited with an interest, as reported by the Mirror, yet it is Watford who are now said to be the club most actively looking at bringing him in.
