Steve Evans claims Giuseppe Bellusci was absolutely outstanding for Leeds against Sheffield Wednesday

Leeds United East Stand

Leeds United were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Steve Evans has told Radio Yorkshire that Giuseppe Bellusci was outstanding for Leeds United against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Leeds were beaten 2-0 by their Yorkshire rivals at Hillsborough, but Evans was still delighted by the Italian’s display at the heart of his defence.

Bellusci managed to deal with Wednesday’s attacking players well, and his manager singled him out for praise after the fixture.

"We have a lot of luxuries," Evans said. "We have boys like Cook, Mowatt and Taylor. We have a lot of luxuries.

"I actually thought Bellusci was fantastic today in spells. I thought he was outstanding. We are building something here."

Bellusci has improved since Evans took charge at Elland Road, but he still has work to do to win over all of the Whites’ supporters.

The 26-year-old has previously been error-prone, and there are still doubts over his ability to play regularly from supporters.

Evans, however, clearly rates Bellusci, and he is currently keeping club captain Sol Bamba out of the starting line-up which is an impressive feat in itself.

Leeds’ defeat to Wednesday have left them down in 17th place in the Championship table, with their next fixture coming against Bristol City on Saturday where an upturn in form and fortune is required to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.
