Aston Villa look destined for relegation at the end of the season.
Villa look destined for the drop this season, as they sit bottom of the Premier League with just two wins to their name all season.
They are currently nine points away from safety, with their form in the first half of the campaign suggesting that will be an insurmountable hill to climb to avoid relegation.
And Barton says that manager Garde will be shocked by what he finds in the Championship as it is a completely different ballpark to what he will have experienced before.
“I think they should plan for the Championship, but use their Premier League might to attract players that they can’t attract next season,” he told Fletch and Sav.
“They’ve got a foreign coach. He won’t know what’s hit him when they drop into the Championship.”
“I think he’s a good coach, but it’s a totally different ballpark to anything he will have experienced before.”
One positive for Villa could be the fact that they may have more time than usual to plan for next season.
With relegation looking extremely likely, it could be confirmed long before the season is finished and while that would be disappointing for the fans it would allow the club to plan ahead accordingly.
That could allow them to bring in proven Championship players and ship out those they do not want earlier than the rest, giving them a better shot at making a flying start to the season.
