The British newspaper claims that the 30-year-old striker has a £7 million release clause in his contract and Newcastle have added him to their list of potential striker options.
“Newcastle United ready to make £7m move for Swansea forward Bafetimbi Gomis The France international has interest from Sunderland plus Lekhwiya in Qatar and Al Ahli in Dubai,” the report reads.
Newcastle are seemingly intent on strengthening their squad in a number of key areas this month, as they look to ease their fears of relegation to the Championship.
The Magpies have already brought in Henri Saviet from Bordeaux and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea, and now they could seek another player plying his trade in South Wales.
However, Gary Monk’s sacking at Swansea has promoted a few changes at the club and the former Lyon man only managed 13 minutes during the club’s crunch encounter with Sunderland in midweek.
Newcastle’s latest victory over West Ham United saw them overtake Swansea and condemn the Welsh side momentarily to a place in the bottom three.
Gomis is an ideal striker and a deal between the two clubs could play a pivotal role in the relegation fight.
