Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Charlie Austin’s Southampton move

Charlie Austin was linked with Newcastle United before he moved to Southampton from Queens Park Rangers.

Newcastle United fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to have their say on Charlie Austin’s move to Southampton.

Austin has left Championship outfit QPR to move to Premier League side Southampton on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

According to The Guardian, the Saints had to pay QPR a transfer fee of £4 million for the services of the English striker.

The 26-year-old is a proven Premier League goalscorer and had a successful 2015-16 campaign on a personal level.

The Englishman scored 18 goals and created 23 chances in 35 Premier League games for QPR last season.

Austin has struggled with injuries this campaign, but he stilled managed to scored 10 goals and create 17 chances in 16 Championship matches for Rangers.

The former Burnley star was linked with a move to Newcastle in the January transfer window.

Earlier this month, The Northern Echo claimed that Austin was the Magpies’ number one target, as head coach Steve McClaren was looking for a striker.

Austin would have been a good addition to the current Newcastle squad, but he will now be featuring for their Premier League rivals Southampton.
