Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to BBC Sport that he was impressed with the performance of Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on Saturday afternoon.
Pickford started the Premier League game at White Hart Lane in North London and played for the entire 90 minutes.
It was the 21-year-old goalkeeper’s first appearance in the English top flight, and he was quite impressive.
The England Under-21 international made as many as eight saves, although that was not enough to prevent Sunderland from losing 4-1.
Pochettino was impressed with the performance of Pickford and told BBC Sport: “We had a lot of shots on target - their goalkeeper was fantastic.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes at White Hart Lane, hosts Tottenham had 68% of the possession, took 26 shots of which 11 were on target, and earned 11 corners.
Visitors Sunderland had just 32% of the possession, took five shots of which two were on target, and earned three corners.
Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment, while Sunderland are currently second from bottom in the standings.
