Newcastle United-owned Haris Vuckic has told The Daily Record that Celtic fans want Rangers back in the Scottish top flight.
Vuckic, currently on loan at Wigan Athletic from Premier League side Newcastle, played for the Gers on loan from the Magpies during the second half of last season.
The 23-year-old Slovenia international attacking midfielder believes that Celtic will benefit from Rangers’ promotion to the Scottish Premiership.
The former Domzale man has also claimed that Celtic fans want Rangers to return to the Scottish top flight.
“Scottish football is going to change when Rangers come back,” Vuckic told The Daily Record. “Celtic will have more competitive games.
“Even the Celtic fans want Rangers back. I never had a chance to play in that game. But I’ve spoken to many people and they’ve told me what it’s like.”
It is an interesting comment from Vuckic, given that Celtic and Rangers are massive rivals.
Rangers playing in the lower leagues for the past few years has certainly made Celtic the only heavyweight in the Scottish top flight.
The Bhoys have won the league title for the past four seasons, and they are set to make it five in a row this campaign.
One suspects that Celtic fans are not too unhappy that Rangers have not been in the Scottish Premiership lately, but there can be no denial that the Gers’ promotion will make the league more competitive.
With Rangers in the Premiership next season, Celtic would face more competition for the league title. It would also bring back the glamour in Scottish football.
