Celtic have signed Erik Sviatchenko.
Celtic have completed a deal to sign Danish defender Erik Sviatchenko, the club confirmed last night via their official website.
Sviatchenko joins from FC Midtjylland, where he had been the club captain, signing a four-and-a-half year contract with Celtic.
The international will strengthen the side at centre-back, with the club worse off for having sold Virgil van Dijk last summer, and being unable to retain the services of Manchester City loanee Jason Denayer.
Sviatchenko has four caps for Denmark at international level, and was also eligible to play for Ukraine.
He had made 25 appearances already for his club this season, including Europa League games, scoring three goals in the process, but had just 18 months to run on his current deal.
The 24-year-old told the club website: "I will do everything I can to bring success to Celtic. It means so much to me to join a winning club, to join a club that goes for and wins trophies and wants to play in the Champions League.
I have had a taste of winning with Midtjylland and I want more of this feeling at Celtic. When you play football, you want to be remembered for winning and I want to be remembered as a winner with Celtic."
Here is a look at how fans reacted on Twitter to news of his signing...

Quite excited at the signing of Erik Sviatchenko. Heard good things. A partnership with Jozo Simunovic sounds good to me #Celtic— Hez (@Hez_cfc67) January 17, 2016
Sviatchenko looks like a experienced player rather than a project. Welcome to Celtic Erik— john lyons (@john_lyons_68) January 17, 2016
Class bit of business getting Sviatchenko. Address problem area, build for next year, spend few quid & blindside media. Credit where its due— Rick Grimes (@SevcoWalkers) January 17, 2016
