The midfielder played a key role in his side's 2-1 win over West Ham United.
The England midfielder completed a move from relegation rivals Swansea this week, with manager Steve McClaren spending big to try and boost his side’s hopes of avoiding relegation.
He enjoyed a winning start to life in the North East as well, as goals from Ayoze Perez and Georginio Wijnaldum sealed all three points for his new side.
Shelvey played a role in both goals, as his excellent pass found Wijnaldum to set up Perez to score the opener, while his raking 60-yard ball to Daryl Janmaat led to the cross for the Wijnaldum to bag the second.
Indeed, it was an impressive display all round, with the 23-year-old sowing the kind of form that saw him break into the England set up earlier in the campaign.
As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Shelvey was a star performer both going forward and defensively in the win over the Hammers.
|Match||Pass Succes||Final Third Pass Success||Duel Won||Ball Recovery||Touches||Unsuccessful Touch|
|Jonjo Shelvey||Newcastle vs West Ham||91%||85%||3||10||71||1|
He posted an impressive 71 touches throughout the game, with just one of those proving unsuccessful, while his passing was superb with a passing accuracy of 91%.
Even his final third passing was on form, with him enjoying a final third success rate of 85%.
Defensively his game was also at it’s best, as he won three defensive duels in the game and managed a staggering 10 ball recoveries in his 90-minute display.
