Report: Sunderland's Emanuele Giaccherini agrees permanent switch to Bologna

Sunderland’s Emanuele Giaccherini looks set to leave the club permanently.

According to a report by the Gazzetta Dello Sport, Serie A side Bologna look set to sign on-loan Sunderland player Emanuele Giaccherini on a permanent deal.

The Italian publication, via the Daily Mail, claim that the Italian club have agreed to sign the player on a permanent basis following an impressive spell on loan.

“Bologna have agreed a permanent deal for on-loan Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini,” the report reads.

Giaccherini joined Sunderland from Juventus in the summer of 2013 but struggled to make an impact on Wearside, scoring just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances.

The attacking midfielder arrived at the Stadium of Light boasting a pretty decent reputation having helped Juventus claim back-to-back Serie A titles as well as a Supercoppa victory.

With 21 international caps to his name, the Italian star is highly-rated and can be described as energetic, hardworking and versatile – desirable attributes which many clubs would go for.

Yet for some reason it just didn’t work with the Black Cats, and this season the 30-year-old has been out on loan where he has scored three goals in ten Serie A starts for Bologna.

He seems to have impressed at the club, prompting the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara side to seek a permanent deal as Giaccherini hopes to be included in Italy’s squad for the upcoming European Championships.
