Report: Crystal Palace’s Alex McCarthy rejects QPR move

Alex McCarthy has reportedly turned down the chance to leave Crystal Palace for Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has rejected the chance to return to his former club Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window, according to The Times.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that McCarthy has turned down the opportunity to join QPR on loan for the rest of the season.

The proposed move, according to the report, would have seen Robert Green switch to Palace.

“Green is entitled to a two-year extension beyond his deal ending this summer, if he plays a certain number of league games this season, thought to be 30,” states the report in The Times.

McCarthy joined Palace from QPR in the summer of 2015, but he has struggled for playing time this campaign.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper has made just six appearances in the Premier League for the Eagles so far this season. The former Reading man has made 4.17 saves per game and 5 saves per goal on average.

It is unlikely that McCarthy will be able to get much playing time at Palace during the rest of the season. Perhaps it would have been a good move for the Englishman had he returned to QPR on a temporary deal.
