The Tottenham head coach has been discussing the 23-year-old Dane.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino says fans have to understand Christian Eriksen is still 'very young' and that he needs to be allowed time for 'ups and downs' this early in his career, according to Sky Sports.
Eriksen's form has tailed generally this season but, against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, he was at the double as Tottenham won 4-1.
And Pochettino has both praised and defended the Dane after his two-goal haul.
The Tottenham head coach told reporters: "It was very important that he scored today. He is very talented; one of the best players we have.
"But we need to understand that he is still very young, only 23. We need to give him some time and the opportunity to have ups and downs in different periods during his career and during the season."
Interestingly, 23 isn't actually that young within the Spurs squad. Dele Alli is 19, while Eric Dier and Harry Kane are 22.
Pochettino, however, is right to back his player and show him support, patience and understanding. Before the Sunderland game, the Argentine was already batting away questions about Eriksen's form.
It might be no coincidence he bagged two the very next day - albeit against Sunderland.
Tottenham are now a healthy four points above fifth-placed West Ham United and travel to Crystal Palace for their next Premier League clash. Before that, they visit Leicester City for their FA Cup third-round replay.
