The big mistake Aston Villa boss Remi Garde keeps making in the transfer market

Rémi Garde

The Frenchman keeps naming potential targets.

Aston Villa look as good as down this season but a recent win against Crystal Palace has given them a small flicker of hope in their bid for Premier League survival.

In order to do so however they would have surely wanted to have made a move in the transfer market yet.

However the club have so far failed to pull off any deal - although Lamine Sane appears to be on the verge of completion.

One odd aspect of Remi Garde's transfer tactics however must not be helping matters - his decision to quite openly suggest he wants to sign certain players, and then naming them.

His decision to throw out Loic Remy's name into the atmosphere got him in trouble with Guus Hiddink and he has done it since with Arsenal's Mathieu Debuchy and Marseille's Steve Mandanda.

It is not the best practice to go around openly commenting on wanting other teams players and considering Garde's many years working in the media it was right to think he would be a bit more savvy.

If Villa want to bring in some new faces this month then the best course of action is not to shout names from rooftops.

Instead, Garde would do better to just say no comment.
