Former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (January 14) that Newcastle are the most underrated team in the Premier League.
"I think Newcastle are maybe the most underrated side in the division," said Clarke. "They have still got a dodgy defence - there's a lot of work to be done there - but they are not as bad as their position reflects, and I think they will get out of trouble."
Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 18 points from 21 matches.
The Magpies are a point behind 17th-placed Swansea City and are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
Steve McClaren’s side have been disappointing all season, but they do have some very good players.
Tim Krul, Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Sissoko, Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic are all good players.
Newcastle’s performances in recent weeks have been encouraging, and the way they held Manchester United to a 3-3 draw at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Tuesday evening suggests that there is still fight left in the team.
The Magpies will take on West Ham United at home in the league on Saturday afternoon.
