Sheffield Wednesday turn to Wigan's Max Power

Sheffield Wednesday

HITC Sport understands Sheffield Wednesday are to step up interest in the League One midfielder.

Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to firm up their interest in Wigan Athletic midfielder Max Power, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Wednesday are in the market for a new midfielder during this month's transfer window and they have been keeping tabs on Power.

Wednesday are ready to turn their attentions to Power after seeing a proposed move for Bolton Wanderers' Mark Davies fall through at the eleventh hour.

All-action midfielder Power has impressed at Wigan since joining the club on a free transfer from Tranmere Rovers last summer.

The 22-year-old has been a virtual ever-present for Gary Caldwell's side this season, scoring four goals in 28 appearances for the Latics.

A number of other Championship clubs, including Derby County and Burnley have been credited with an interest in Power, but Wednesday are ready to steal a march on their rivals by making a firm move for Power.

Wigan are reluctant to lose Power this month as Caldwell looks to keep hold of his best players as the club look to maintain their push for promotion back to the Championship.
