Report: Southampton had agreed deal for Lucas Ocampos, but injury scuppered move

The Argentine will be out of action for some time.

A report in France today has suggested that Southampton were on the verge of signing an Argentine talent from Olympique Marseille.

The player in question is Lucas Ocampos.

A report from France Football is suggesting that a deal for Southampton to bring in Ocampos was as good as done.

The report claims that Marseille president Vincent Labrune travelled to London at the weekend to finalise a move for the player.

That deal was then set to be pushed through this week until it all went wrong.

Ocampos suffered an injury against Guingamp in their game on Sunday which now means he looks likely to be out of action for the foreseeable future and Southampton have therefore decided to pull the plug.

Ocampos is a highly talented winger who initially caught the eye in France when he joined AS Monaco.

Unfortunately his form has dipped in recent times and it would now appear that Marseille are happy to see him go.

Southampton it seems were willing to give him a chance but that now looks to have fallen by the wayside.
