Report: Celtic open talks for Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts

The two clubs are said to be negotiating a loan deal for the young forward.

Celtic have opened talks with Manchester City over a loan move for youngster Patrick Roberts, reports the Daily Mail.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are reportedly keen to secure first team football for their best young stars rather than making them continue their development in the Under 21 squad.

And Celtic are keen to offer the Premier League side the chance to do that, with them more than willing to take their young stars on loan until the end of the season.

That has led to them opening negotiations over two young City stars, according to the Daily Mail, with deals being lined up for Patrick Roberts and Bersant Cellina.

They are not the only side interested in Roberts though, with the Mirror also reporting that Eddie Howe and Bournemouth are pursuing a loan move for the youngster.

Roberts was signed from Championship side Fulham in the summer, but has so far failed to break through into the first team under Pellegrini, making just three first team appearances so far.

A loan move would be ideal for him at this stage, with him likely to garner more from first team football with either Bournemouth or Celtic than he would in the City reserves.
