Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (January 14) that Tottenham Hotspur worry him.
Wilkins made the comments in the wake of Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester City at home in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
Robert Huth’s headed goal in the 83rd minute proved to be the difference between the two sides at White Hart Lane in North London.
It was Spurs’ first home loss in the Premier League since the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at White Hart Lane on December 13.
“They have been delightful for me, Tottenham, this year to watch, but this is typical Tottenham,” said Wilkins on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (January 14). “They had an opportunity when Newcastle came to town a couple of weeks back and blew that. They got beat at the Lane.
“Last night they had a fantastic opportunity to really push forward and lost again at the Lane. That’s six points gone down at home. They worry me, Tottenham. One minute they are absolutely brilliant, and the next minute they are throwing away a good three points.”
Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 36 points from 21 matches. Mauricio Pochettino’s side are seven points behind leaders and North London rivals Arsenal.
Despite the loss to Leicester on Wednesday evening, it cannot be denied that Spurs are having a fabulous season. The Premier League title is still within reach, but one suspects that Tottenham will be happy with a top-four finish.
