Spanish striker signs on loan until the end of the season.

Middlesbrough have confirmed the loan signing of Athletic Bilbao striker Kike Sola.

Boro made a move for the 29-year-old last week and agreed terms earlier this week, prior to the player flying into Teesside to finalise the deal.

He has now put to paper with Boro, and was signed ahead of their game at Bristol City on Saturday - but it remains to be seen whether he will be involved in that fixture.

Confirming the deal, Boro boss Aitor Karanka told a news conference, as reported by the Northern Echo: “He is a player who can bring something different.

“He is strong, he can play as a second striker and as a number 10.

“He brings something extra we don't have.”

Sola has only ever been on the fringes of the first-team squad at Bilbao since joining from Osasuna in 2013, starting just four league games in that time and scoring once. He has one Under-21 international appearance for Spain to his name.

Boro hope to confirm another loan within the next 24 hours, as they look to finalise their move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.
