The Dane is unhappy at Wolfsburg.
The Senegalese striker started the season exceptionally well, scoring three times before October but has not hit the back of the net since and finds himself in and out of the starting XI.
Kicker is reporting that Diouf has emerged as a number one strike target for the club.
Wolfsburg wanted to snap up Diouf in the summer of 2014 when he left Hannover but he instead headed to the Britannia Stadium but they now feel they can get their hands on the player.
So if Wolfsburg do come in for the striker, should Stoke ask for a former Premier League maverick in return?
Former Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner is said to want an exit from Wolfsburg this month after struggling for first-team football at the Volswagen Arena.
He is a player who has never quite lived up to his potential, especially the potential he thinks he has.
But Mark Hughes has something of a collection of such mavericks at the club Ibrahim Afellay, Marko Arnautovic, Xherdan Shaqiri and Bojan Krkic have all had their difficulties in the past and are now in top form at the Britannia Stadium.
Bendtner comes with baggage, but so did they, and he might just thrive in this environment.
