Chris Sutton’s response when asked if Celtic need a marquee signing

Chris Sutton suggests that Celtic need to make a big-name signing in the January transfer window.

Chris Sutton has told The Scottish Sun that Celtic need to make a marquee signing in the January transfer window.

“I think so,” said the former Celtic striker when asked if there is a need for a marquee signing to give the Bhoys a lift. “You do need to push the boat out now and again. There comes a time when Celtic have to try and sign players who are better than what they have.”

Celtic have the best squad in the Scottish Premiership, but it is in Europe where they are lacking.

Under manager Ronny Deila, the Hoops have failed to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League for two seasons in a row.

The Bhoys should be able to clinch the Scottish Premiership title this campaign with relative ease, but they should be thinking of the 2016-17 Champions League campaign from now on.

Celtic need a couple of world-class players, or at least two players who could potentially become world class.

The question is whether the Scottish Premiership champions would be able to attract players of that category in the January transfer window or in the summer.

Deila’s side will take on Dundee United away from home at Tannadice Park in the Scottish Premiership on Friday evening.
