Watford fans react on Twitter to Sebastian Prodl’s performance v Southampton

Watford were shockingly poor in their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Southampton.

Watford put in undoubtedly their worst performance of the season as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Southampton on Wednesday afternoon.

Shane Long opened after 17 minutes, and after missing a host of chances to extend the lead, the Saints finally netted a second in the 73rd minute. It was a dominating performance by the South Coast club, with the ball rarely leaving Watford’s half, and it really should have ended closer to 6-0 than 2-0.

There is no knowing why the Hornets were so poor, but a change at central defence certainly was part of the reason.

Sebastian Prodl came into the starting XI in place of the tired Craig Cathcart. Cathcart has needed a rest for a few weeks, and this game proved how vital he is to Watford’s stability.

Prodl, who impressed so highly at the start of the season, looked completely off the pace of the game, and his partnership in central defence with Miguel Britos was non existent.

He was easily beaten in the air - despite his towering figure - and the lack of any defensive solidity was part of the reason why the game could have been lost by an even great scoreline.

Following the game, Watford fans took to Twitter to react to Prodl’s performance, with many in shock at just how bad the Austrian international looked.
