Jason Roberts hails Jermain Defoe on Twitter after Swansea hattrick

The striker was in fine form in Sunderland's vital win.

Jason Roberts has praised Jermain Defoe on Twitter after his hattrick in the 4-2 win over Swansea on Wednesday evening.

The striker was on fine form at the Liberty Stadium as he bagged himself three of his side’s four goals to move them within a point of escaping the relegation zone.

It was a much needed victory for Sam Allardyce’s side, who managed to come back from 2-1 down to secure a vital three points against their relegation rivals.

And Roberts was keen to praise their goalscorer Defoe, saying it was no surprise he was the man scoring the goals as he is among the best finishers in the Premier League era.

“Defoe hat-trick no surprise,” he wrote on Twitter.

“[His] goalscoring record speaks for itself, [he] is and always has been one of the best finishers of this PL generation.”

And it may just be that Defoe could prove to be the difference in this year’s relegation race.

The striker has nine goals in 17 games this season, an impressive record for a striker playing in a team that currently reside in the bottom three.

Of those clubs down there at present, Sunderland are the only ones who can boast having a prove Premier League goalscoring record, and his ability to grab vital goals may be something that propel his side away from a relegation battle.
