HITC Sport understands Cambridge have agreed a deal to keep loan striker Williamson.
Cambridge United have agreed a deal to turn striker Ben Williamson's loan move into a permanent deal at the Abbey Stadium, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Williamson joined Cambridge on loan in November and scored three goals in nine games for the League Two club.
The 27-year-old impressed Cambridge boss Shaun Derry during his loan stint at the club and he has moved quickly to sign him on a full-time basis.
Williamson is set to an 18-month deal at Cambridge as Derry looks to lead his side to a push for promotion in the second half of the season.
Williamson only joined Gillingham last summer on a free transfer from Port Vale after seeing out his contract at Vale Park.
The big powerful striker found his first-team opportunities limited at Gillingham, making just six starts before his move on loan to Cambridge.
Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh is happy to let the former Bournemouth man move in search of first-team football as he is unlikely to break into the high-flying Gills side as they chase promotion from League One.
