The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder will have a vital role to play in the months ahead.
Spurs lost 1-0 to Leicester City on Wednesday evening and while they remain in the top four West Ham United are just a point further back with 17 games remaining for both teams.
Tottenham’s next match is against Sunderland, with the Black Cats fighting for their top flight survival and no doubt buzzing after their 4-2 victory away to Swansea City earlier this week.
Speaking ahead of that match Pochettino confirmed that midfielder Ryan Mason was still out injured but that he was pleased with the return of Belgian international Mousa Dembele.
The 28-year-old has played his way back into form this season but after suffering a minor ankle injury he came off the bench for the last 19 minutes against the Foxes.
“The good news is that Dembele is back and got some minutes last night,” Pochettino said.
However he will want his side to put their recent defeat behind them and ensure they are still in the top four after the latest round of matches, which given the unpredictable nature of this season will be easier said than done.
