Liverpool will face United at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, and Merson expects the match to finish 2-2.
“This is shaping up to be a great game,” Merson has written on Skysports.com. “Both teams scored three and conceded three in midweek so I can't see anything but goals in this game. Liverpool can't defend but they will have a go.
"A draw is pointless for both teams and because of that it will be a gung-ho football match. Both sides will be going all out for victory and that will make it a superb game to watch.
“However, I can't split the two sides and I'm going for a 2-2 draw with Wayne Rooney continuing his goal-scoring form.”
Liverpool will head into the game at Anfield on the back of a 3-3 draw with Arsenal at home.
Although the Reds failed to win against the Gunners at Anfield on Wednesday evening, their performance was encouraging.
The Merseyside outfit are struggling for wins at the moment, but Jurgen Klopp’s side will be up for the encounter against United.
Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal’s side will head into the match against Liverpool on the back of a 3-3 draw with Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park.
United’s defending against the Magpies left much to be desired, and they will find it tough against Liverpool.
The Red Devils are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment, while Liverpool are in ninth spot.
