The Newcastle United winger could be on his way already.
According to a report from French newspaper L’Equipe, Newcastle United could send winger Florian Thauvin back to France on loan for the rest of the season, with a deal potentially being done by the end of this week.
Thauvin only arrived at St James’ Park from Marseille in the summer but despite developing an impressive reputation in Ligue 1 at Marseille and Bastia, the 22-year-old has struggled to make much impact at the Magpies thus far.
The winger’s below-par performances are starting to prompt dissatisfaction from the Newcastle faithful but it would still come as some surprise if he was to leave so soon, even if only on loan.
The L’Equipe report claims Newcastle are currently considering Marseille’s offer, which would see the player return for the next six months with Steve McClaren set to make a decision as early as this afternoon.
According to the report the player himself is excited by the prospect of returning to France and has made his feelings known to his parent-club.
A loan move would allow the player to rebuild his confidence without the English side writing him off too soon.
