Indeed, the pundit and former Newcastle forward says he can 'see the argument' for a West Ham win but feels Newcastle will have gained great confidence from their 3-3 stalemate with Manchester United.
And he also feels the addition of Jonjo Shelvey will really help the Tyneside outfit in terms of their squad depth.
Owen told Colossus Bets ahead of this weekend's fixture: "Transfer window-signings like Jonjo Shelvey should add much-needed depth to the squad.
"But in West Ham they are meeting a side back in form with a vengeance. They are unbeaten in their last nine matches, have [Dimitri] Payet back from injury and did tremendously well to come from a goal down to win 3-1 at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
"I can see the argument for West Ham here, particularly as they are fifth in the table (compared to Newcastle’s 18th) and have a good away record - they also beat Newcastle 2-0 earlier in the season, too - but I’ll go 1-1."
Arguably, it's a brave prediction from Owen. West Ham are on fire and, with Payet back, Slaven Bilic's men can look unstoppable.
What the pundit is probably doing is attaching great significance to Newcastle's 3-3 draw with Manchester United.
If Steve McClaren's men can come back from 2-0 down to United, why can't they earn a draw with the Hammers?
Overall, though, it's more difficult to back Owen's theory than to go for a West Ham away win. The east London side are fifth, after all, with the Magpies still in the relegation zone.
