Matt Doherty has played at left-back for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their recent fixtures.
Doherty had slipped down the pecking order at the start of the season, with Dominic Iorfa replacing him as the club’s first choice right-back.
The 23-year-old was forced to spend a long period of time on the sidelines, but Kenny Jackett reshuffled his defence and gave Doherty an unfamiliar role on the left hand side of the back four.
Since playing at left-back, Doherty has been in brilliant form - and he capped up his string of excellent displays by scoring in Wolves’ most recent 3-2 win over Fulham.
And Jackett said: “It was a fantastic strike from Matt and I have been very pleased with him.
“He has wanted his opportunity having been frustrated because the emergence of Iorfa has kept him on the sidelines.“The opening has come at left back and he has taken it with both hands.”
Doherty received his opportunity at Wolves, after the Midlands side struggled to keep goals out over the early part of the campaign.
Wolves’ defence had looked very porous, but they have tightened things up at the back in recent weeks and been rewarded for their new found solidarity.
Wolves have now won their last four matches, and they have moved up to 10th place in the Championship table.
