Jozy Altidore jokes with Sunderland fan on Twitter after Jermain Defoe's hat-trick

Jermain Defoe scored three times as Sunderland beat Swansea City last night.

Jozy Altidore has joined in with Sunderland supporters' jokes about him on Twitter after Jermain Defoe netted a hat-trick for the Black Cats against Swansea City yesterday.

Sunderland effectively swapped Altidore for Defoe with Toronto FC at the start of the year, and the trade has been a very productive one for the Wearsiders.

Altidore struggled during his time at the Stadium of Light, but Defoe has thrived in the North East.

The experienced striker has highlighted his finishing ability once again, and he now has 12 goals in 18 appearances this season.

One Sunderland supporter took it upon himself to thank Altidore for agreeing to the trade on Twitter, and the USA international was quick to respond.

Alitdore spent 18 months at Sunderland between 2013 and 2015, but he only scored once in 42 Premier League appearances.

Since he has moved to Toronto FC, he has scored 13 times in 25 appearances, meaning that the move seems to have worked out well for all parties.
