Southend United have rejected a bid from Bury, who want to sign David Worrall for a third time in his career, HITC Sport understands.

Worrall has started 16 games this season for the Shrimpers in League One, but Bury are looking to raid the club they were promoted alongside last season.

Bury have sunk into mid-table after a bright start to the season but manager David Flitcroft remains hopeful they can still make a play-off spot, but he wants to add to his squad to enable him to do that and Worrall is top of his list.

Worrall is a popular figure at Gigg Lane having already clocked up well over 100 games for the club during his previous time with them.

The 25-year-old began his career with Bury, but was soon spotted by West Bromwich Albion, who snapped him up. He only played cup football for The Baggies and was sent out on loan to various clubs including Accrington, Shrewsbury and then back to Bury.

He was signed by Bury on a permanent deal in 2010 and spent three very good seasons with the club before Rotherham stepped in to sign him. He then joined Southend in 2014 and has been a regular ever since.

But now Bury are looking to bring him back to the club and despite having their first bid turned down, are set to make a new offer.
