The 33-year-old confirmed he is not on the verge of a comeback.
There has been talk of a move to Lincoln City, as reported by the Lincolnshire Echo.
Lincoln are currently ninth in the National League table and have not won in their last nine games which has seen them look to strengthen their defence.
But despite the rumours Derby fans should not get too excited over a return to football for Barker anytime soon.
He took to Twitter earlier today to make it clear that there have been no developments over his future in the game:
FYI No news on my football status, contrary to a few untrue rumours.— Shaun Barker (@barks5) January 14, 2016
Barker was club captain at Derby County but has had a torrid four years with injury. The 32-year-old centre back dislocated his kneecap and damaged knee ligaments in a game with Nottingham Forest in 2012 and has not played a game of senior football since.
He played for the Derby under-21s a year ago but did not make a miracle comeback and that game on the 13th March 2012.
Hopefully the 33-year-old will get back into the game soon but for now the former Ram is not set for a comeback.
