Leicester City midfielder Dean Hammond has signed a loan extension to keep him at Sheffield until the end of the season, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Hammond joined League One Sheffield United on an emergency loan in October initially until January after finding himself out of favour at Leicester.
The 32-year-old made just one appearance for Leicester prior to his loan move to Bramall Lane with the midfielder well down the pecking order in Claudio Ranieri's plans at the King Power Stadium.
High-flying Leicester have now given the former Brighton & Hove Albion man the green light to stay at Sheffield United until the end of the season.
Hammond has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Sheffield United since his arrival at the club and Blades boss Nigel Adkins was determined to keep hold of the experienced midfielder to help their bid for promotion from League One.
Hammond has won promotion from League One from Southampton before and Sheffield United will be hoping he can do the same with the Blades this season.
