Juventus were also keen on the German under-19 international left-back.

With Jurgen Klopp now at the helm at Liverpool you can expect to see plenty of his countrymen linked with a switch to Anfield.

Klopp and his staff are bound to have good knowledge of the German market and it now appears that they were keen on signing up one of the nation's top young players.

Jannes Horn is an 18-year-old left-back currently contracted to VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. The German youth international has recently received his first call-up to the Wolfsburg senior side - sitting on the bench as the side lost to Wolfsburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga back in December.

He also recently signed a professional deal with Wolfsburg and has told Kicker that he rejected approaches from both Liverpool and Juventus in order to remain in Germany with Wolfsburg.

"Of course, I had to gulp the first time I heard these names (were interested). But it was not difficult for me to sign for a club like VfL (Wolfsburg).

"I have enjoyed this great education and I hope that I will go my way here."

Klopp has been linked with bringing plenty of German faces to Liverpool since taking over but so far it is just Steven Caulker who has arrived, providing much needed defensive cover, on loan from QPR.

In time there will surely be the odd arrival from the Bundesliga but it appears that Horn is happy at the Volkswagen Arena for the time being.
