The major flaw with Newcastle's new signing and reported transfer targets

Newcastle are being admirably proactive in the transfer market - but need to watch out.

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has been at pains to suggest his club are 'almost there' for several weeks now.

Despite an improvement in general form and an end to embarrassing heavy defeats, Newcastle remain under serious threat of relegation.

Being 'almost there' won't help them - and that's why their proactive approach to the January transfer window is an admirable route to take.

The Newcastle board aren't resting on their laurels this time around, it seems, with Henri Saivet & Jonjo Shelvey already signed and two more players linked.

Saido Berahino, according to the Daily Mail, and Andros Townsend - as reported by Sky Sports - are both transfer targets for the Mapgies.

But, like with Shelvey, the St James' Park outfit need to be careful when it comes to Townsend and Berahino.

Buying players to bolster Newcastle's squad is a must, while all three of Shelvey, Townsend and Berahino will arguably add quality. All three, however, also struggle when it comes to attitude.

Indeed, Townsend and Berahino have both had issues with their respective clubs this season - and Shelvey had fallen out with the Swansea setup before he sealed his switch to Tyneside.

So, while all three can certainly help in terms of their football, McClaren needs to keep them in check when it comes to morale. The trio could prove disruptive for squad harmony and may not respond well if things don't go to plan at St James' Park.
