Sunderland had scouts watching the French side's latest match but their reported target was not in action.
Sunderland may have given a clue regarding January transfer windows after it was reported on Bordeaux’s official website that the Black Cats sent scouts to watch their clash with Lorient on Tuesday evening.
Bordeaux ran out 2-0 winners on the night courtesy of a Jaroslav Plasil strike and an own goal from Florent Chaigneau but it would be no surprise if Sunderland were running the rule – yet again – over Lorient centre-back Lamine Kone. Or perhaps not, because the reported Sunderland target, who has been tipped to resurrect a move to the Stadium of Light by the Daily Mail, did not feature.
So could Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce have been impressed with another Lorient player during his time scouting Kone and sent someone back for another look?
That is certainly a possibility and the Black Cats are in desperate need of quality reinforcements as they bid to move out of the Premier League’s bottom three and secure top flight safety come May.
Only time will tell what Sunderland have planned in what remains of the January transfer window. However it seems they are keeping their scouts very busy as they look to add to the recent signing of Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich.
