Former Aston Villa ace had a message for his former club.
Aston Villa have finally won a Premier League game, their first since the opening day of the season.
It was also Remi Garde's first victory as manager, and lifts a huge weight off the shoulders of all at the club, just when it had seemed they were on the verge of losing hope, after failing to beat Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.
Villa have looked bereft of confidence at times, but managed to keep a clean sheet against a Crystal Palace side in dire need of a striker, with experienced defender Joleon Lescott scoring the winning goal.
Garde had elected to bring Libor Kozak back into their starting line-up, and this combined with the victory received a thumbs up from Villa hero Stilyan Petrov.
Petrov is not giving up hope that Villa can avoid relegation, despite the fact they still remain adrift, but a win is a step in the right direction.
It changes everything at the club having waited so long for three points, if they can kick on from here, they may just have given themselves a chance.
Their next game is at home to surprise package Leicester City at the weekend, but suddenly that looks a little less like a nailed on away win for the Foxes.
