Steve Evans says Mustapha Carayol was electric for Leeds United against Ipswich Town

Elland Road East Stand

Leeds United were beaten 2-1 by Ipswich Town yesterday.

Steve Evans has told LUTV that he thought Mustapha Carayol was ‘electric’ before he tired in Leeds United’s 2-1 defeat against Ipswich Town yesterday evening.

Carayol is Leeds’ latest signing, and he has arrived on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season.

Carayol scored on his debut for Leeds against Rotherham United in the FA Cup, and Evans was pleased with the wide man’s first Championship appearance for the club too.

“We’re trying to get some fitness into the boys,” Evans said. “We’ve seen Carayol blow up tonight, after 45 minutes, after playing on Saturday.

“But in the first half, especially in the first 20 minutes, he was electric. We have to get some quality in to the football club.”

Leeds had Ipswich on the back foot for the opening stages of the contest, after Souleymane Doukara scored within the first 13 seconds of the match.

The Tractor Boys began to settle as the match went on, however, and they dominated the second half of the contest.

Ipswich had numerous attempts on Marco Silvestri’s goal in the second period, with Leeds’ seemingly slowing down in their performance levels.

Mick McCarthy’s side grabbed an equaliser through Luke Chambers, before Brett Pitman sealed victory in injury time.

Ipswich’s win puts them in fifth place in the Championship table, while Leeds are now down in 15th spot and 12 points off the play off places.
