Report: Sheffield Wednesday want £5m for Tom Lees

Sheffield Wednesday 2

Sheffield Wednesday defender Tom Lees has attracted the attentions of Newcastle United and Norwich City according to reports.

According to a report in the Chronicle, Sheffield Wednesday have slapped a £5million price tag on Tom Lees to fend off interest from Premier League clubs.

Lees has been linked with Newcastle United and Norwich City in the Daily Mail, but Wednesday are determined to keep hold of their star defender.

The former Leeds United man has worn the captain’s armband at Hillsborough this season, and he was a mainstay before picking up an injury.

Lees has missed over a month’s worth of action, but he has still racked up 23 appearances this season and is highly regarded by Carlos Carvalhal.

The Portuguese boss has generally rotated his squad around since taking charge of the Yorkshire club, but Lees is the one player who has always played when fit and that speaks volumes for his importance to the club.

With Wednesday battling for a play-off spot, they are now reportedly determined to keep hold of the 25-year-old, and have put a high asking-price on him to ensure that no Premier League clubs make a bid in January.

The ball is now seemingly in the court of his potential suitors: Do they bid big or look elsewhere?
