Report: Newcastle United have already devised a fitness plan for Andros Townsend

Newcastle United are apparently doing everything possible to make sure Andros Townsend can thrive if he does move to St. James' Park.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have already devised a fitness plan for Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.

The 24-year-old winger is said to be high up on Steve McClaren’s wishlist in the January transfer window, with Townsend reportedly keen on a move to St. James’ Park.

McClaren alerted staff at Newcastle of his interest in signing Townsend back in November, and plans have been put in place for the England international's potential arrival.

Newcastle’s coaches have reportedly already drawn up a fitness plan, to ensure that Townsend gets up to speed as quickly as possible if he does move to Tyneside.

Townsend has not played for Tottenham since way back in October, and his only football of late has come at under-21 level.

Newcastle are said to be determined to offer him an escape route from White Hart Lane, but complications still exist over the transfer.

Tottenham are reportedly demanding a high price for Townsend, and they also won’t let him leave on loan.

If the tricky winger does complete a move to Newcastle before the end of the window, he will follow Henri Saivet and Jonjo Shelvey, who have already been snapped up by Steve McClaren’s men this month.
