Joel Matip has agreed in principal to sign for Liverpool this summer, the Mirror reports.
The Schalke centre-back is out of contract at the end of this season, and has agreed a deal in principal with the Reds to move to Anfield during the summer.
Jurgen Klopp is known to be a big fan of the 24-year-old, who has spent his entire career with Schalke.
Naturally a central defender, Matip can also play in holding midfield, and Klopp wants to bring him to Merseyside to add further cover to a back-line which needs reinforcing.
Rather than sign him this month, a free transfer has been lined up, with Matip all-but guaranteed to link up with the Reds at the end of the season.
Matip has played 239 games for Schalke, 177 of which have been in the Bundesliga. This season, the 24-year-old has played 17 league games, scoring two goals and registering one assist.
He has completed 1.5 tackles, 3.3 interceptions and 4.8 clearances per game, as well as managing 1.1 shots each time he takes to the field.
