Newcastle sign Jonjo Shelvey; excited Magpies fans give their reaction on Twitter

Shelvey

Newcastle signed Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea on Tuesday evening.

Newcastle United confirmed on their official website on Tuesday evening that Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has joined the club, with BBC Sport suggesting the fee is £12m.

The Magpies have already swooped for Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saivet this week, but manager Steve McClaren clearly wanted another midfield maestro to boost his side's fight against relegation.

Shelvey was paraded at St. James' Park before last night's game against Manchester United, and the England international was treated to an enthralling encounter, with the two teams playing out a 3-3 draw on Tyneside.

Now, Shelvey will be turning his attention towards this weekend's game against West Ham United - a club he was on the book with as a youngster.

The 23-year-old has blown hot and cold at Swansea, but it's clear that he has talent, with his superb range of passing earning him England recognition recently.

It's been a while since Newcastle snapped up an England international, and it's fair to say that Magpies fans were excited on Twitter after the signing of Shelvey was announced.

Newcastle supporters felt that Shelvey could make the team even better than the one which drew with United, though some had concerns about his mentality.

Fans were pleased to see money being spent on a proven Premier League player with England experience, and believe he could be a huge signing as Newcastle bid to stay in the top flight.

Here are some of the reactions from Newcastle fans on Twitter after signing Shelvey on Tuesday evening...
