Mark Bunn and Aston Villa teammates react on Twitter to Crystal Palace win

Remi Garde's men ended their 19-game winless run in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over the Eagles at Villa Park.

Mark Bunn and his Aston Villa teammates finally had something to celebrate on Tuesday night as they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to secure their first Premier League victory since the opening day of the season.

A goalkeeping howler from Wayne Hennessey allowed Joleon Lescott to head home from Jordan Veretout’s corner just before the hour mark as the hosts held on to secure three precious points towards their survival chase.

It was manager Remi Garde’s first victory in 11 matches in charge since replacing Tim Sherwood at the helm in early November, ending the club’s 16-game winless run in all competitions, as the team played with the kind of heart and desire that was decidedly lacking over the first half of the season.

They still sit eight points from safety at the foot of the table with only 11 points from 21 games, but the result at Villa Park seems to have created renewed optimism that they may yet have a chance of pulling off what would be an unprecedented escape act.

Goalkeeper Bunn, who kept his place in the side over Brad Guzan after starting Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup third round draw at Wycombe Wanderers, was among those to take to Twitter after the match to celebrate the win, while the tonsillitis-stricken Jack Grealish also sent out his congrats to the team after watching from the stands.

Injured duo Carlos Sanchez and Jordan Amavi tweeted their delight, too, along with a whole host of Villa youngsters, such as Jerell Sellars, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and the on-loan Callum Robinson.
