Henri Saivet signed for Newcastle earlier this week.
Speaking to L’Equipe, Henri Saivet revealed the promise Steve McClaren gave him before he signed for Newcastle earlier this week, confirming that he has been promised a central midfield role for the club.
When asked what position McClaren intends to play him in, Saivet said: “In the central midfield position. I spoke with him, and he even surprised me. I did not think that he would know me so well, that he would be able to speak about my game with such detail.”
The Magpies completed the signing of Saivet earlier this week, and the midfielder admitted that his role in the team was important to him.
He held talks with McClaren to ensure that he would be used in his best position, and the 25-year-old has admitted that the Newcastle head coach was extremely well informed about his talents.
The Senegalese star was surprised by this, but McClaren’s promise to play him in central midfield ensured that Saivet wanted to sign with the Tyneside club.
Although he started his career as a forward, Saivet has moved further backwards over time, developing into a talented central midfielder, who will bring leadership and solidity to the Magpies.
He can also play on the wing, but central midfield is his best position, and McClaren only intends to use him in that role as he looks to keep Newcastle in the Premier League.
