HITC Sport understands highly rated young midfielder is set to leave in the summer
Barnsley have beaten off competition from a number of League One rivals to land Preston midfielder Josh Brownhill, HITC Sport understands.
The 20-year-old has entered the final six-months of his contract at Deepdale, but has so far resisted Preston's advances to sign a new long-term deal with the player understood to be keen to move on.
HITC Sport understands that the likes of Bournemouth, Norwich, Wolves and Burnley are all tracking the former Manchester United trainee - who has been relegated to the fringes of Simon Grayson's squad this season following their promotion to the Championship.
Now Preston have agreed to let him leave on loan, with Barnsley beating Doncaster and Rochdale to his signature, but they are still pursuing talks over a new deal.
Brownhill, who joined Preston in 2013, is set to complete his move to Oakwell on Thursday. Barnsley are currently in 18th of 24 teams in League One after a disappointing first half of the season.
